KARACHI: There’s great news for football fans in Pakistan as Coca-Cola brings the FIFA World Cup original trophy to Pakistan on February 3, 2018. The football’s most coveted trophy will come to Lahore, creating a historic occasion giving Pakistani fans the chance to experience the trophy.
Although Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has been banned by FIFA due to infighting in two groups, it seems private companies has take the task to keep football alive in Pakistan. Last year, Trunkwala Family, under its initiative Leisure Leagues brought former football super star Brazilian Ronaldinho and Friends – including former Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs, former England goalkeeper David James, Dutch star George Boateng, former French players Robert Pires and Nicolas Anelka and Portuguese player Luis Boa Morte. Two matches were played in Lahore and Karachi.
Leisure Leagues Chief Operating Officer (COO) Ishaq Shah welcomed the news and said it was a good initiative and would help in promoting football in the country. “It is a very good initiative. Our (Leisure Leagues) brand ambassador (Pakistan footballer) Kaleemullah will be attending the ceremony on the request of Coke and we are very happy to hear this news. It is very exciting news for Pakistani football fans and as a company that has long term goals and plans for Pakistani football we are delighted to hear this,” Ishaq Shah told media .Shah added that as part of Leisure Leagues, he also wanted to see Pakistan football team qualifying for FIFA World Cup in near future. However, looking at the low international standing of the national team, it is a distant dream to realize. The FIFA World Cup(tm) Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will give millions of people around the world the opportunity to get ready to taste the feeling of the world’s largest, most anticipated sporting event – the 2018 FIFA World Cup(tm).
