Customs seize huge quantity of smuggled gutka, betel nuts
KARACHI: Collector Customs Preventive, Iftikhar Ahmed yesterday said the customs anti-smuggling teams seized huge quantity of smuggled hazardous Indian gutka, betel nuts and cigarettes in 5 raids during past 7 days. Addressing a presser at the Customs House, he claimed that gutka worth Rs. 40 million, betel nuts worth Rs. 10 million and cigarettes of over Rs. 2 million were recovered. He said that the smugglers were adopting new strategies, however, the customs were making all-out efforts for elimination of the smuggling.

DC West set up heatstroke camps in different areas

KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner (DC) West Shadia Jaffer has set up heatstroke camps in different areas of district West for the provision of timely first aid to any affected persons of heatwave. The DC has set up heatstroke camps near Hafza Flyover, Fish Harbour, Maripur and Orangi Town, a press release said yesterday. The camps are equipped with all necessary equipment, medicines and other facilities, including ORS sachets, cold potable water and beds. Medical practitioners at the camps said there is no fixed timeframe for the camps. Understandably, the camps would continue to function till weather turns pleasant. People were visiting the camps and receiving first aid or expert advice from doctors and volunteers.

Four women die in Landi Kotal in landslide mishap

PESHAWAR: Four women die at Tehsil Khyber of Landi Kotal when a big chunk of earth fell over them. The women were digging earth from a big mound at Mukhtar Khel village for repair of their mud houses. The victims included a woman and her three daughters. Villagers recovered the bodies and handed them to heirs.

Balochistan Assembly session summoned today

QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly session to be held today, 25th September said a press release issued here. Session would be presided by Deputy Speaker Balochistan Assembly Sardar Babar Khan Musa Khel. In the upcoming session the point of resolution regarding martyrdoms of Levies personnel’s in Pishin and Qilla Saifullah, presented by PKMAP’s MPA Nasirullah Khan Zehri would be argued. In connection to financial crisis of Balochistan, the members would discuss the reasons behind delay in NFC Award and distribution of funds.

Six arrested, arms, ammunition recovered

KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers Sindh yesterday arrested 6 accused from different parts of the metropolis and recovered arms, ammunition, drugs and snatched items from their possession. A spokesman for the para-military force, claimed that the Rangers conducted raids in Mehmudabad and Ferozabad areas and arrested 5 accused Muhammad Zahid, Aslam, Muhammad Shakir, Ameen and Saad for their alleged involvement in various incidents of snatching and dacoities and recovered arms, ammunition and snatched material from their possession. An accused Shad Ali was arrested for possessing illegal weapon and his alleged involvement in various crimes. All the arrested persons have been handed over to the police for further legal action.

World Heart Day on Saturday

SUKKUR: The Inter Global Human Development Society (IGHDS) with a collaboration of Mahar Medical College (MMC) Sukkur will mark the World Heart Day 2018 at college`s main auditorium on Sept 29th. In this connection, a symposium would held to create awareness among the students, teachers and nursing staff in regards to adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Consultant cardiologist and head of Cardiology department, MMC, Dr Zahoor Ahmed Soomro and other health experts will highlight the importance of the World Heart Day.
