Police capture 55 accused across province
KARACHI: Police yesterday claimed to have arrested 55 criminals in different raids in Sindh province during the last 48 hours. According to Sindh police spokesman, during targeted raids in different areas of the city in consequence of these raids Karachi police arrested 23 absconders, two proclaimed offenders and two robbers. During search operations in Hyderabad and Sukkhar, police arrested 22 absconders, five proclaimed offenders and one other criminal. The police have recovered two pistols, one Kalashnikov, rounds and drugs from their possession.

Three killed, four injured in separate road mishaps

KARACHI: Three people were killed, and four others injured in different road accidents in the metropolis in the wee hours of yesterday. According to rescue sources, a speeding vehicle hit a   rickshaw near Steel Mill area. As a result, a young man, Yasir aged 24 suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, while, three others, Kamran, aged 24, Rizwan, 26 and Adnan, 30 sustained injuries. The body and injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for an autopsy and treatment, respectively. Separately, an 18-year-old teenage boy, Muhammad Mohsin son of Ashraaf, was hit by a vehicle while riding a motorbike on Ayesha Manzil Bridge. As a result, he suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. The body was brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old youth, Zuhaib Abbas sustained injuries when a fast-moving car hit his bike in Landhi area. He was shifted to JPMC for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. A 32-year-old Faizan sustained severe injuries when a fast-moving vehicle hit his motorbike in Gizri area. The injured was shifted to JPMC for treatment.

Raja Jalal Maqpoon appointed as new GB Governor

ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi has appointed Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon as Governor Gilgit Baltistan. Notification in this regard has been issued from president secretariat. Chief Judge Supreme Appellate court Gilgit Baltistan will administer oath from him at a ceremony to be held during the current week. Raja Jalal Maqpoon has served as PTI Gilgit Baltistan President and will be the 6th Governor of Gilgit Baltistan.

PIA completes post-Hajj operation

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) completed its post-Hajj operation yesterday, as the last Hajj flight from Medina landed in Karachi. PIA operated 240 special Hajj flights this season and catered more than 68500 Hujjaj, says a PIA spokesman.

Couple injured in Quetta accident

QUETTA: Collision between motorbike and rickshaw at Zarghoon Road, Quetta, yesterday, leaves two injured. According to police sources, a man namely Farooq and his wife were passing by Zarghoon Road when speedy rickshaw hit their motorbike. As a consequence they got severely injured and were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta for medical assistance. Police have registered a case.

Narcotics seized, 17 arrested

SARGODHA: The police arrested 17 accused and recovered narcotics, liquor and illegal weapons. A police spokesman yesterday said the accused were identified as Naveed Anwar, Khalid, Shehzad, Mansab, Bashir, Riaz, Attaullah, Bashir, Aamir, Aslam, Khizar, Ghulam Abbas, Yasir, Shahid, Bahadur Ali, Amir Sultan and Zaheer Abbas. The police recovered 3,495g hashish, 10 bottles of liquor, a klashinikov, a rifle and 204 bullets, a gun and seven pistols.
