In the past he has successfully campaigned on social welfare front. Last year, Wasim Akram successfully campaigned at IRUSA’s Hope for Pakistan. In fact, he stepped into the welfare campaign arena way back in 2002 when he started taking part in diabetes awareness campaigns. At seminars and walks, he used told people that Diabetics can live a normal life by assuring an active lifestyle and following the directions of health experts, former captain of the Pakistan cricket team Wasim Akram said at a seminar on Wednesday. The cricket icon at TV shows used to give tips on how to control diabetes. It may be recalled here that Wasim was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 29, but he successfully continued to play cricket and led the national cricket team from the front. “I was really concerned about my disease, but the medical experts told me I could manage a healthy life with it. And they were right as I managed to get 400 wickets after I was diagnosed with the disease,” he said.
In 2017, he joined Novo Nordisk’s international campaign for diabetic awareness. And last but not the least, The Akram Foundation (TAF) is also on the forefront on welfare work where Wasim Akram and his wife Shaniera Akram are busy in contributing their bit to the society.
