What is a Surgical Mask? :
A Surgical Mask is a loose-fitting, disposable and rectangular mask. The mask has elastic straps worn over the ears. The top of the mask may have a metal strap that fits over your nose.
The three-layer surgical mask system can prevent large micro-organisms from spreading through respiratory drops and splashes. The mask can reduce the process of touching the face by hand. This is how three-layer surgical masks work. The outer layer blocks water, blood or other bodily fluids, the middle layer filters out germs and the inner layer absorbs the moisture and sweat of the exhaled breath. However, the edges of the surgical mask are not completely attached to your nose and face. Therefore, it is not necessary that the small particles coming out of the cough or sneeze be filtered.
When to wear a Mask?:
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that you wear a mask when you have a fever, cough, or other respiratory symptoms. If you are healthy but taking care of a person with a respiratory disease, you should wear a mask… A mask is necessary when you are six feet or more close to a sick person. Although Surgical Masks prevent large sputum from escaping the respiratory system, they do not necessarily prevent the transmission of this Novel Corona Virus, also known as SARS CoV2. This is because the Surgical Mask does not filter out the smaller particles suspended in the air.
Since it does not stick to your face, these ingredients can enter from the sides. According to some investigations, surgical masks in public places have failed to prevent infectious diseases.
Currently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, USA) does not recommend that people wear Surgical Masks or N95 Masks to prevent respiratory illnesses such as Covid19, as medical care providers There is a need and a shortage of them these days.
However, in the case of Covid19, the CDC has advised that the general public should cover their face with a cloth or a cloth mask to prevent the spread of the disease. The CDC has also given instructions for making it. Such a mask can also be made from a T-shirt fabric.
How to wear a Surgical Mask:
If you need to wear a Surgical Mask, do the following.
Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds before wearing the mask or mix well with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Check for any flaws in the mask, whether it is cracked or its cords are broken. Put out the part of the mask that should be on the outside. If there is a metal layer on the upper part, place it on the nose. Grab the ear cords and put them on the ears. Adjust the top layer of metal with your fingers by applying pressure to your nose. Spread the mask over the mouth and under it. The mask should fit well on the face. Do not touch the mask once it has been applied. If the mask gets dirty or damaged, replace it with a new one.
What not to wear with a Surgical Mask:
Once the mask is well applied, there are some steps you can take to prevent germs from reaching your face or hands. So when you wear a mask, don’t touch it again because it can contain germs. Do not remove the mask from one ear. Do not hang the mask around the neck. Don’t bind the ropes. Don’t wear a once-used mask again. If you have touched your mask after wearing it, wash your hands first.
Surgical Mask removal and disposal:
It is important to remove the mask properly so that the germs do not reach your hands or face. Also, safely remove the mask. Wash your hands thoroughly after removing the mask.
What are N95 recipients?:
N95 recipes match the face. Because they attach better to the face, they are less likely to penetrate the air from the sides of the suspended particles. N95 also effectively filters even the smallest components suspended in the air. For N95 to be effective, it must fit properly on the face. A well-fitted N95 recipient usually filters germs better in the air than a Surgical Mask. Their tests ensure that they block up to 95% of small emissions (0.3 microns). However, they also have some limitations.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not recommend that the general public wear N95 to avoid Covid19. According to the FDA, the best way to prevent infection is to keep the virus from reaching you. He advises keeping a social distance and washing hands regularly. If you have a respiratory illness, the best way to protect others from it is to avoid getting it. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends reducing the risk of contracting the virus; Keep washing your hands with soap and water at appropriate intervals for 20 seconds.
If soap and water are not available, use a Hand Sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Avoid touching the Face, Mouth and Eyes. Keep a reasonable distance. The CDC, USA recommends a minimum distance of six feet. Don’t go to public places without covering yourself completely. In short, the Surgical Mask protects against large hanging components, while the N95 receiver provides better protection.
